We are pleased to announce that a paper by Dr. Kazuya Sumi,
“An Exploratory Endoscopic Achalasia Phenotype With Visible Squamocolumnar Junction and Distal Esophagogastric Junction Relaxation Failure: Association With Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease After Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy,”
has been published in Digestive Endoscopy.
https://doi.org/10.1111/den.70149.
This study focuses on a novel achalasia phenotype characterized by visible SCJ and distal EGJ relaxation failure, and investigates its clinical features and association with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) after POEM.
Although this phenotype is rare, it was shown to be associated with a high incidence of erosive esophagitis and severe GERD after POEM, suggesting its potential importance as a preoperative endoscopic finding.
Congratulations, Dr. Sumi!
