On April 8, 2025, our center held the Welcome Meeting for New Residents, marking the official start of the new academic year.
This year, we welcomed 13 new members, including six internal medicine residents, four surgery residents, one domestic exchange trainee, and two international exchange trainees. With their arrival, the atmosphere of our department has become even more vibrant and dynamic.
The meeting began with a warm yet powerful message from Dr. Inoue, Director of the Center, addressed to the new members.
He emphasized the enduring importance of clinical practice, reminding us that no matter how experienced we become or how our titles and responsibilities evolve, we must always place clinical care at the center of our work. He stressed that this dedication to patient care is the foundation of being a physician and the driving force behind our growth.
He also spoke about the courage to face patients sincerely and the significance of teamwork in medicine, providing a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the mindset and responsibilities of being a medical professional.
Following this, the new residents each introduced themselves, sharing their backgrounds and aspirations for the future. The room was filled with a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout.
Presentations from each team introduced their current activities, and an overview of our educational, research, and work systems was also provided. These segments offered valuable insight into the direction of our department moving forward.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Yokoyama, Hospital Director and Professor, gave an inspiring address on the origins and mission of our center. He expressed his strong belief in “realizing the world’s leading center for gastroenterology”, and emphasized the importance of dedicating ourselves to clinical care, education, and research with sincerity every single day. His words left a deep impression on all attendees, especially the new residents as they begin this important chapter of their careers.
With these new members on board, our center will continue to foster strong teamwork while striving to train physicians with both advanced expertise and humanity, and to further elevate the quality of our clinical practice and research.
