On September 28, 2026, Professor Haruhiro Inoue, Director of our Digestive Diseases Center, was invited to deliver a Named Lecture at the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Clinical Congress 2026 in Washington, D.C.

Professor Inoue delivered the “Distinguished Lecture of the International Society of Surgery,” a prestigious lecture established in 1990 to recognize internationally distinguished surgeons.

In his one-hour lecture, entitled “Advanced Flexible Endoscopic Surgery in GI Tract: From ESD, POEM, Third Space Endoscopy and EFTR,” he reviewed the evolution and current frontiers of gastrointestinal endoscopic therapy, including endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), third-space endoscopy, and endoscopic full-thickness resection (EFTR).

In recognition of his role as the Distinguished Lecturer, Professor Inoue was presented with a commemorative crystal plaque engraved with his name.

During his visit to the United States, Professor Inoue also delivered lectures at other meetings, including the American Foregut Society (AFS), giving a total of five presentations across three venues.

In the field of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), he also presented our center’s ongoing work on EPSIS and EFSIS and exchanged perspectives with international experts on their potential applications in the diagnosis and pathophysiological assessment of non-erosive reflux disease (NERD).

This invitation provided an important opportunity to share the endoscopic innovations and research developed at our center with specialists from around the world.

We will continue to advance research and innovation in gastrointestinal endoscopy, disseminate our findings globally, and contribute to the further development of endoscopic diagnosis and treatment.
