DDW 2025 Participation Report
By Dr. Mayo Tanabe
At Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2025, I had the honor of participating in several academic and networking events.
First, Dr. Haruhiro Inoue, Director of our Endoscopy Center at Showa University Koto Toyosu Hospital, gave a keynote lecture at the ASGE Presidential Plenary Session titled “How to Achieve the Best Outcomes in POEM and Third-Space Endoscopy.”
Held in the San Diego Convention Center Ballroom, the session was packed to capacity, and after the lecture, many international colleagues gathered to speak with Dr. Inoue, reflecting the global recognition of his work.
I was also invited to speak at the ASGE & JGES International Symposium titled “Finding Our Way in Training in ESD” (Saturday, May 3, 16:00–17:30 CST), where I presented on “Third-space and beyond lower-GI endoscopy: PAEM/Suture.”
The session, moderated by Dr. Shinji Tanaka (JGES) and Dr. Yutaka Tomizawa (ASGE), featured presentations from leading experts in Japan, the US, and the Middle East, and was a valuable opportunity for cross-cultural academic exchange.
In addition, I had the pleasure of attending the Women in Endoscopy (WIE) event, where I connected with female endoscopists from around the world. It was inspiring to see a global community committed to advancing diversity, education, and mentorship in endoscopy.
Throughout the conference, I had many meaningful exchanges with fellow Japanese physicians, deepening our professional networks and reaffirming our shared goals in advancing endoscopic practice.
DDW 2025 was a truly enriching experience, and I am grateful for the opportunities to both present and connect.
I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to attend this prestigious meeting.
I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to my department colleagues for their continued guidance and support.
